These symbols reflect life’s twists and turns—like a roller coaster—and highlight the connection between the human spirit, talent, and nature’s elements. I call these moments of triumph the “yes, yes, yeses” of life. My art, described by Laura Fiser of the Paine Art Center as “an exceptional mix of spontaneity and expressiveness,” has earned over 100 national awards. If you can’t attend the North Woods Art Tour, virtual tours featuring my artwork, inspirations, and techniques are available on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ArtistChristineAlfery/) and YouTube. Artwork can also be collected online at christinealfery.com or in person. My peaceful studio in Vilas County, Wisconsin, on Lac du Flambeau within the Chippewa Indian reservation, provides endless inspiration. I invite you to visit during the tour or by appointment. - About | North Woods Art Tour
Discover the heart behind the Northwoods Art Tour – a celebration of creativity and community in Northern Wisconsin. Learn about our mission, the artists we support, and our commitment to showcasing the vibrant art scene of the region. About Us About the North Woods Art Tour: Celebrating Creativity in Our Region Our Story The inception of the North Woods Art Tour sprouted from the visionary mind of charter member Carl Gromoll, whose legacy still echoes within our community, although he is no longer actively involved in the tour's endeavors. Carl's original vision was to provide a platform for artists who primarily worked from their home studios, away from the traditional gallery scene. This concept aimed to unveil these "hidden artists" to the public, offering a rare glimpse into their creative processes and methodologies. In its inaugural year in 2000, the tour showcased the talents of 20 artists spread across 19 unique locations. Remarkably, four of these original artists continue to grace our tour roster to this day: Odonata in Mercer, Manitowish River Studio in Mercer, Moondeer Design (now nestled in Boulder Junction as Moondeer & Friends Gallery), and Bear Paw Pottery (now situated in St. Germain). Since its inception, the North Woods Art Tour has experienced steady growth, even expanding to include a Fall Tour in 2007. Despite these expansions, the fundamental essence of the tour has remained unwavering: to foster meaningful connections between artists and the public, and facilitating understanding through engaging demonstrations and interactions. The tour's enduring success can be attributed to the deep-seated appreciation from visitors who relish the rare opportunity to peek behind the curtains of artists' private studios. While the creation of art often transpires in solitude, the artists of the North Woods Art Tour eagerly anticipate the chance to welcome you into their sanctuaries, sharing their artistic endeavors and personal narratives. Each year, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to engage with our visitors, fielding questions, unveiling our artistic processes, reconnecting with old friends, and forging new connections. At the heart of the North Woods Art Tour lies a vibrant tapestry of creativity, community, and shared passion, and we invite you to join us on this enriching journey. "The North Woods Art Tour isn't just about showcasing talent; it's about cultivating connections. It's a celebration of the vibrant creativity that defines our region, a platform for our artists to shine, and a journey of discovery for our visitors, leaving them inspired and enriched." Mary Burns, Board President North Woods Art Tour

Samuel invited Taylor on their first date - a pottery lesson at the campus studio. Samuel had been throwing pottery since high school at Lakeland Union and continued in college. Taylor, on the other hand, had never touched clay. The pottery studio turned out to be the perfect place to start as we’ve been inseparable ever since. After graduation, we found ourselves back in the Northwoods — working, adventuring, and living the lake-loving, outdoorsy life. We constantly talked about how one day, we’d have a pottery studio of our own. In 2021, we bought a peaceful lake lot, covered in ferns and tall red pines, with a quiet peninsula stretching into the water. We called it Peters Point and imagined it as a place for freedom, creativity, and clay. But life took an unexpected turn. Samuel was diagnosed with a genetic condition and suddenly needed a kidney transplant. While he began nightly dialysis and waited on the transplant list, we focused on finishing our home which we built ourselves, start to finish. We completed our house in just nine months, and brought home our first pottery wheel not long after. Pottery quickly became more than a hobby. It became a way to heal, to connect, and to find joy in a hard season. Samuel received his transplant in 2024, and we’ve been pouring love into clay ever since. Every piece we make is a collaboration. Samuel is the throwing expert, and Taylor glazes each piece by hand. Our style is inspired by the beautiful place we live: the woods, the water, the earth. We focus on wheel-thrown, functional pottery made to be used and loved — mugs, bowls, pitchers, oil pourers, cups, and our popular jewelry dishes. We also create a small collection of raku pottery, a unique firing technique that produces stunning, one-of-a-kind finishes perfect for decorative display. Thanks for being part of our journey. We’re so glad you’re here. During the North Wood’s Art Tour, we will be hosting at our location in Lake Tomahawk on the corner of D and HWY 47. Walk through our studio setup there to see our finished pottery selection, as well as watching throwing and glazing demonstrations. Much love, Samuel & Taylor Peters Gallery Previous Artist Next Artist

I have my own studio with all supplies and equipment needed to complete my work. Since my current studio is small, I make mostly small and medium-sized cups, mugs, bowls, plates, birdfeeders, jars, vases, etc. My ceramics are often made on a pottery wheel, but I also use hand-building techniques. I prefer using a fine white clay and a brown speckled clay. After the first firing (bisque firing), my pottery is glazed with a variety of commercially available glazes and self-made glazes. My pots are often decorated with resist techniques that create playful and/or abstract patterns and bright colorful glazes. The pottery is complete after the second firing (glaze firing). My inspiration comes from the nature around me as well as my travels around the world. While my esthetic seems to be largely based on the clean lines of my west- European origin, it has evolved to include images and shapes of the Northwoods. I love to imagine that people feel at peace and happy using my pottery in their daily lives. My studio is open by chance or by appointment. Gallery Previous Artist Next Artist

Lake Michigan was just off the back yard, and rockhounding destinations such as Lake Superior and South Dakota were within driving distance. Inheriting my father’s tools and passion, I learned how to cut, shape, sand and polish amethyst, agate, jade, malachite, jasper and more into unique shapes that bring out their natural beauty. Some become unique jewelry products such as wire wrapped pendants and sterling silver cuff links; others such as thunderegg halves and agate slabs make for beautiful home decor; and I have lots of finished stone you can incorporate into your next artistic project. Lapidary and jewelry products are what I produce, but they are byproducts of why I do the work. Every stone is an experiment, an opportunity to learn a little bit about geology or technique. Plus, I think about my dad every day that I'm in the workshop. I'm overjoyed with the product, humbled by how much I have yet to learn, and honored to be my father's son. During the tour, I will have exhibits showing every stage from harvest to finish using a variety of lapidary techniques. Visit my website anytime, or visit my studio during tour dates.
