Artist Information
Medium: Stack laminated and carved wood
Method of Production: I make quick sketches and scale models to show the aesthetics, determine viability of function, eliminate nonessential elements of the design, and establish fair curves. Using my eye and mathematics, I divide the scale model into cross sections and then expand them into full size cross sections called patterns. I trace the pattern pieces on the wood. I use either all birch plywood or a variety of wood species that I have cut and laminated to match the patterns. The resulting cross sections are laminated, carved, sanded and finished by me. I also carve directly into logs.
Materials: All birch plywood and various species of hard wood lumber and logs.
Background: BS in Art from University of Wisconsin, Madison, 1974 and designing and producing furniture since 1970.
